Salad Chronicles

"Do not fear ordering that salad tonight, you are trying to eat healthy, yes girl do not order that sugar packed fruit cocktail tonight go for the water" LOL this is the pep talk I give myself as I walk into the restaurant. Heck I am adopting the words I saw today on pinterest (I posted the picture just so you can see what I am talking about). Pity the words did not prove true in my case!

I scheme through the menu knowing exactly what salad I would like but the fear creeps in and cuts me at the knees, you are weak it tells me you are too afraid of what people will think if the fatty orders salad, it says!

Ok fear shut up and let me order the chicken schnitzel stuffed with creamed spinach! "hmmm what am I drinking? Ok go for the water this time, compromise" lol well let's just say I ordered a cola tonic to cut this embarrassing story short.

I know a lot of fuller figured women who eat bad food because they feel it is expected of them. To them eating healthy is for people trying to lose weight. When we sit down and consider all the harmful ingredients in these greasy meals we have to make  a change and start living our normal lives and not what is expected of us by society.

Seeing a fuller figured person having a big greasy meal in public may disgust a lot of people (even though some of them will never admit this) but to them it makes sense, but a big person having a salad and drinking water is as strange to them as Bill Gates holding a "Jobless and Need Food" sign on the side of the road!

What I am trying to get at here is that we need to geet rid of all the fears that hold us back as plus sized people. You have a right to a healthy and long life just as much as the next person so do not sabortage yourself by stuffing your face with unhealthy food because you convinced yourself it is OK because you are not trying to lose weight! See the thing is your body needs good food for it to function and it matters not if you are skinny or fat, the body just wants nutrients and if we continue down this I can eat chocolate and cake everyday because I love my curves road, we will not have any curves to be proud of as we rot underground oh and in some cases as we chill in urns!

I am a bad junk food junkie, I had speckled eggs and rascals for lunch today! As I was chowing down on these I asked myself why I think it is ok to be so irresponsible with my diet, why do I believe eating these things is ok FOR ME and I realised it is because I am not actively trying to lose weight but the opposite of not trying to lose weight shouldn't be "stuff yourself crazy with junk"! We all have our crazy junk food days I assume, but if everyday is a crazy junk food day for you then we are in big trouble you and I!

Flabby Arms and All!

I have a beautiful plus size friend who is always selling herself short. She is smart, funny, pretty, sexy and just cannot get over being plus size even though she has been this way since we were kids. It is important for us to love the bodies we have right now before we even attempt changing them.

Granted sometimes you can stand infront of the mirror and stare at all those lumps and bumps you wish would just magically smooth over but we have to find the strength to embrace them. This will help you create a clear perception of your body shape and learn to appreciate and celebrate your natural and unique body style. You learn to seperate physical appearance and true character and thus helping you get over treating your body size and shape as a personal failure.

Do not hide your big and beautiful body in over-sized clothes, because most of the time this is a sign that you feel ashamed and anxious about your body. People come in all shapes and sizes so do not try to look like someone you are not. I for one have convinced myself that I hate going out and love to stay at home and watch movies but I realised that I have never given leaving the house a chance because of my big girl issues and fears. I now try to have fun with my size and shape beacuse it is the only one I have right now and even though I am trying to lose about 15kg I am not uncomfortable in the body I am in right now!

I have a youger cousin who is obssessed with what the media deems beautiful, I have tried to explain to her that beauty has such a broad meaning and cannot be confined to what she sees in music videos and VEntertainment! Carry yourself with confidence and forget the haters, and when you read those magazines remember the power of photoshop, and please eat right, drink the recommended amount of water and move a little more!

The Infamous Stofie

Lerato wrote us an interesting and funny article on the body contouring garments we ladies use to hide our lumps and bumps! Enjoy:

Heeee, ladies…let’s be frank about matters. Whatever your size is, you and I both know the secret to all those lovely contained numbers we wear.

Call it what you want, somnganga, composer, corset, vemba, stof-pipe…whatever it be called in your lingo, fact is, the bigger you are, the more likely you are wearing it as you read this.
It’s the most uncomfortable thing to wear a dress/skirt and feel like your thighs are burning off rubbing on each other! Yerrr, it feels like a rash waiting to happen, and thus most ladies have the under garment…the stofie.

I’m recalling one episode of our popular soapie Generations where u-Queen couldn’t undress next to Lungile coz of the stofie. It happens to most of us. I will not expose the names of my girls who do these, but I know of a lot..One friend mentioned that she “conveniently needs the bathroom” before she sleeps over at the fiancé’s place…
Let’s just accept, and teach our partners that these undergarments are a way of life. Composure is essential , and looking good is a must…and we all know that the extra roll on your stomach disappears faster with a corset, and “Triumph” help than with gym.

Please don’t get me wrong ladies, it is good to go to gym, but we all know that we are not all going to look small even after gym…So, for the most of us, we rely on the famous stofie, or corset to hold what needs to be held. FACT! But in all the truth we are saying, we must still remember that under garments belong under clothes, please don’t be that chick whose stofie is peeping out. It’s not appetising, and makes you look sub-standard, and we are not going for that mos???
